Separate the dirty-shoe zone from the decorative rug if space allows. A textile chosen for appearance is not automatically an outdoor scraper mat. Watch where wet footwear is normally left, and keep moisture from lingering beneath a rug. Choose a size that allows the front door to open fully and leaves a stable landing.

A runner belongs to a route, so the route needs to stay useful. Include thresholds, opening doors and access to storage in the plan. Consider the floor beneath it and any underlay as one combined setup. Decorative continuity matters most when it works with ordinary movement rather than against it.
